Plasma membrane

Description: Membrane found outside of cell, made of a double layer of phospholipids which also contain proteins. 


  • Controls movement of substances in & out of cells.
  • Separates cells from surroundings.
  • Allows cell identification. 

Microvilli (Epithelial cells in small intestine)

Description: Microscopic folds in cell surface membrane
