1950s:
- Social Policy developed to assimilate their own culture.
- Afro-Caribbean men and women were encouraged to work care and transport jobs when they emmigrated- Ethnocentric Curriculum.
1980s:
- 2nd generation were thought to go into low skilled jobs- led to riots (Brixton 1981).
- New Social Policy developed (multi-culturalism) to make everything fairer and emphasise that all cultures are valued- people could scapegoat and blame other cultures for taking up thei jobs.
The Equality Act (2010):
This act makes it against the law to meet a persomn or a group of people unfavourable because of:
- Age.
- Disability.
- Pregnancy or Maternity.
- Race.
- Sex.
- Religion.
Classroom-Based Research:
- Wright- Teachers demonstrate overt racism towards pupils by having higher expectations for Asian pupils for Black pupils.
