1 calorie = the amount of energy needed to raise the temp of 1g of water by 1`C = 4.2joules

On food labels dietary information is measured in kilocalories (1000 calories) which are written as Calorie (with a capital C)

1 Calorie = the amount of energy needed to raise the temp of 1kg of water by 1`C = 4200joules

You get your energy from food and different foods produce different amounts of energy
