Most materials are not originally positively or negatively charged because they have the same amount of protons as electrons.

If you rub electrons ONTO an insulator then it becomes negatively charged.

If you rub electrons OFF an insulator then it becomes positively charged.

-Electrons are transferred by friction onto the insulated sphere.

-The sphere becomes negatively charged.

If the negative charge is transferred to other materials, (like hairs), they repel each other because they have the same charge. The electrons have nowhere to go.

Voltage or potential difference: They are the same thing. Potential difference is the driving force or energy that pushes the current around the circuit. It is measured in Volts (V).
