Trends in gender and achivement:

• Opportunities for women were still limited after WW2
• 1990s - girls outperform boys at most levels of the education system
• 2013 - Girls achieved more A* - C at GCSE and A-level
• Girls were more likely to pass every subject apart frim Economics and Media
• 2010/11 - more female (55%) than male (45%) full-time graduates
• Women outperform men by about 5%

• Jobs for women in the service sector of the economy have expanded
• They are provided with the incentitve to seek economic independance
