Eden Rock

Context/Purpose:

• This poem is about Causley's deceased parents, and it describes his passing into the afterlife/heaven to see them again.

The title; Eden Rock is an extended metaphor connoting Christian paradise.

Semantic field of water creates a serene iamge. 

Religious imagery through the use of colours and lights; "the sky whitens as if lit by three suns" "her hair.. wheat... takes on the light"; "the white cloth".

Calming adverbs such as "slowly" and "leisurely" create a peaceful scene, and supports the interpretation that Causley is seeing paradise.
