Ecosystem:
- Terai-agricultural region in south of Nepal, belt of well watered floodplains and is fertile
- Region is hot and humid and composed of fertile alluvial soil-rich in plant nutrients
- Extreme biodiversity, many subtropical plants eg pipal and bamboo, also wildlife in forests such as Bengal tiger, sloth bear and Indian rhinoceros
- People dependent upon Terai forests, important source of national income
- Due to poverty and corruption, large areas of forests have been cleared for agriculture or to sell timber
- Removal of forest also impacts the response to monsoon flooding, causing disruption to downstream communities
Sustainable Forest Management:
- Aim to provide a livelihood for local people…
