Rural Areas

A rural settlement contains:

• fewer than 10,000 people, consisting mostly of villages and hamlets found dispersed in areas of countryside. 
• main function being residential with few services [may contain a pub, post office, church, village shops.] 
• Some may have a clear land-use pattern because of being 'suburbanised' by commuters and exurbanites moving in.
