Water has a high specific heat capacity which means that I requires a lot of energy to alter its temperature. This makes it a suitable habitat for aquatic organisms because it means that the temperature of their environment remains relatively constant,

Water also has a high latent heat of evaporation. This is important as can be used in homeostatsis of the maintainence of temperature as it has the ability to act as a cooling mechanism. Sweat is produced from the skin and evaporates, removing heat, allowing for body temperature to remain constant. Animals can also pant to cool themselves down.
