Criticisms on Plato - A level

Disagree:

• Absolutist- No concrete proof that either the world in the cave or outside the cave is real
• Elitism in the cave and rejection of the posteriori
• Plato suggests that philosophers are best placed to rule since they have greater knowledge, but they may overlook practical skills needed for ruling, by reliance on an intellectualist approach
• Karl Popper- True reality is changeable
• No proof/empirical evidence
• is there a form of everything, Cancer?
• Concepts of Beauty.Goodness may come from experience and upbringings
• Aristotle- lack of empirical proof "no sense leads to non-sense"
• Aristotle said he could not agree that the form of something has separate existence over and above the particular
• 3rd man argument - the form of the form (infinite regress +nonsense)
• R.Dawkind -> we are just DNA. Ideas/,atter are from evolution -> Not forms
• Freud - the Psychological crutch. E.g. Comfort in life after death
