Gloves: These protected the hands, which could be robbed raw when using the lariat.

Hat: Known as a stetson, the hat was the cowboy's roof against the weather - sun, rain and snow.

Bandana: This was worn around the neck as a scarf, It could be used to protect the back of the neck from sun, to tie on the hat in windy weather, dust mask etc.

Saddle: This was the Cowboy's essential equipment. Without it he could not do his job and so it was his most prized posession.

Six-shooter: The revolver was the essential status symbol of the cowboy. Few cowboys were very accurate with it. Often it would be left in the wagon.
