Concerns of the UK Democracy

HideShow resource information

Main concerns of the UK Democracy:

1) Low Turnout at General Elections

Causes under-representation and results which do not reflect the majority of society

Example: Referendum on North East Assembly in 2004 - Turnout of 47% and General Election 2010 - 65% turnout

2) Parliament is not well represented

Can cause conflict between government organisations

Example: Up until 20 years ago, on 5% of MP's were women in the Commons, but it has now risen to 20%

3) FPTP Voting system is Un-proportional (Mis-represented)
