What is memory?
Ross et a (2001) states 3 main functions of memory...
1) Natural inference system that allowed us to store a few facts and derive others as needed.
2) Relate new events to prior knowledge in order to understand them.
3) Deliver relevant knowledge when it is needed.
Different types of memory...
- Episodic Memory: specific details of events (e.g. what you had for breakfast)
- Semantic Memory: our ability to store facts and categories (e.g. a canary is a type of bird)
