Classification
Classification: The process of grouping/categorizing organisms into taxonomic groups/taxa.
Taxonomy: The classification of organisms according to similarities and differences between them.
Phylogeny: The study of evolutionary relationships between organisms.
- This is called Natural Classification.
- A common ancestor is an ancestor that is shared by two or more taxonomic groups/ organisms.
The five domains:
- Kingdom: E.g Animalia
- Phylum: E.g Chordata
- Class: E.g Mammalia
- Other: E.g Primates
- Family: E.g Hominidae
- Genus: E.g Homo
- Species: E.g Sapien
