Churchill and Roosevelt
- Seemed as though they would be natural allies
- However it appears that Churchill liked Roosevelt more than Roosevelt liked Churchill.
- Churchill worked very ahrd to maintain their relationship.
- However when they first met in 1918, R. did not like C. at all.
US support but non-intervention
- November 1939- USA repealed the Neutrality Act which allowed Britain to purchase American arms.
- In October, the USA declared a neutral zone along the entire coast of the USA and South America and the US navy patrolled this to prevent the sinking of merchant shippping by German naval forces.
- In September 1940, 50 old US destroyers were exchanged with Britain.
- In December. Roosevelt used the phrase 'arsenal of democracy' to defend sales of arms in Britain.
- Lend Lease act of March 1941, $31.6 billion went to Britian in 1945.
