  • Some oils can be extracted from nuts and seeds rich in vegetable oil- by crushing and pressing
  • or can be extracted by distilling plant material and water then seperating oil from  mixture
  • vegetable oils provide us a lot of energy but also burn in the air to produce energy 
  • vegetables used for biofuels and biodiesel
  • vegetable oils have hydrocarbon chains WITH DOUBLE BOND so theyre alkenes (unsaturated)---so they decolourise bromine water
  • unsaturated fats are believed to be better for your health than saturated 
  • saturated fats are linked to heart disease
  • food is cooked quickly as BP is higher so cooked at higher temp
  • improves colour, texture and taste of food
  • energy content increased when some oil
