Atomic Structure and the Periodic Table:
Atoms, Elements and Compounds:
Atom- the smallest part of an element that can exist.
Element- a substance which contains only one type of atom. (H, Cl)
Compound- formed by two or more elements by chemically combined. (HCl)
↳ Compounds can only be seperated back into elements by chemical reactions.
Mixtures:
Mixture- two or more elements or compounds which are NOT chemically combined
↳ Mixtures can be seperated using 3 seperation techniques:
1. Filtration- used to seperate insoluble solids from liquids through filter paper
2. Simple distillation- used to seperate the liquid from a solution (water from salt + water) by heating the solution…
