Long Term Causes 1921-1926
- The change in indusrial relations from the first world war (glasgow rent strike and nationalisation of welsh pits)
- The fall in price of coal, unemployment hitting 1 million
- Rising union discontent after Black Friday, formation of AEU and TGWU in 1921
- 1925 decision to return to the gold standard, led to more expensive imports and further reduction in wages
- between 1921 and 1925 workers saw a wage reduction of £12 million a week
