To study a case in psychology is to provide a detailed analysis of an individual, group, institution or event. They often involve analysis of unusual individuals/events, such as a person with a rare disorder.

Conducting a case study usually involves the production of qualitative data. Researchers construct a case history of the individual concerned, using techniques such as interviews, observations and questionnaires. Sometimes the individual may undergo experimental or psychological testing to see what they are capable of and this may produce quantitative data.
