what are case studies?
case studies are when rare behaviours or events are being investigated, this examines an individual person as compared to a large group of ppl that are assigned an experiment

to provide a detailed analysis of an individual

what type of methods are used on case studies?
either experimental or non experimental methods can be used

why are case studies usually researched?
as they allow a small area of psychology that is unanswered to be researched upon, so psychologists can gain a better understanding of it and more in depth research can be carried out

give examples of case studies
a few examples include; HM, Phineas Gage, Little Albert, KF, PM, etc
or the uk riots in 2011, 9/11 terroist attack, etc

name the evaluation of case studies
-methodological issues, only studying 1 individual so its hard to generalise findings to a wide population (low population and external validity)
-issue with subjectivity, researchers expectations or feelings may get in the way of the study, ie-

-Freud made a whole theory based off of little Han's experiences
+can unveil rich, unique insights and data that are overlooked in general psychology [+ethically done that wouldn't be ethical w experiments, ie case study Genie-
