Gametogenesis

• production of gametes in the gonads
• spermatogenesis: the production of sperm in the testis
• oogenesis: the production of eggs in the ovary

Spermatogenesis:

• occurs at the start of puberty and continues throughout life
• occurs within the seminiferous tubules

seminiferous tubules to the rete testis to the vas efferens to the epididymis to the vas deferns to the urethra

• primordial germ cels (2n) from a spermatogonium
• spermatogium divides by mitosis to become a primary spermatocyte (2n)
• meioiss I occurs to form a secondary spermatocyte (2n)
