Bertolt Brecht is a famous playwright who wrote influential pieces of drama such as 'Mother Courage', and 'The Caucasian Chalk Circle'. Born in 1898 in Germany, he served in the war but hated the Nazi regime and Nazi ideology. Brecht used his plays as a way to rebel against German politics, and consequently had his citizenship taken from him and was forced to flee to America. His aim was to make the audience form an opinion, dismissing emotional attachment with characters in favour of educating people.
