It's really important to think about who a text is for when you're reading or writing.
The Audience is the People who Read the Text
Audience doesn't just mean the people watching, like with a play or a television programme. The audience means the people who are going to read a piece of writing.
e.g. Text - Audience
1. Brochure about French holidays - Holiay-makers
2. Picture book of nursery rhymes - Young children
3. A science text book - Students
Different people need different kinds of writing.
When you're reading something, remember that the writer will have had a certain group of people in mind as their audience. This will affect the style in which the text has been written.
Audience can Affect the Content and Presentation
Sometimes you can work out who the audience is by looking at the text's content. E.g. an article in 'Make and Bake' magazine is obviously aimed …
