1) two assumptions of the biological approach
- assumption 1: behaviour can be explained interms of the brain.
- for example, the cerebal covers the surface of the brains and is divided into four lobes: frontal lobe, occipital lobe, parital lobe and temporal lobe.
- different regions of the brain are localised/specialised for different function.
- e.g. the frontal lobe is responsible for thinking and fine motor movement
- the occipital lobe is responsible for sight and vision
- assumption 2: behaviour can be explained interms of hormones.
- hormones are biochemical substances that are produced in one part of the body
- e.g. pituitary glands and adrenal glands
- examples of hormones are: testosterone which is a male hormone and Oestrogen which is a female hormone.
2) two assumptions of the behaviourist approach
- assumption 1: behaviour can be explained interms of operant conditioning
- operant conditioning= new behaviour can be learnt through reinforcement, either positive or negative
- Skinner demonstrated this with his rats or pigeons (skinner box).
- he made them repeat their behaviour through being rewarded with…
