Alkenes
- Double bond is not just two single bonds.
- One of the pairs of electrons is held between the two carbons but the other is in a molecular orbital above and below the plane of the molecule.
- Single bonds are referred to as sigma bonds.
- The second bond in a double bond is called pi bond.
- Electrons in the pi bond can move anywhere within the orbital. Alkanes have an area of high electron density.
