Intrinsic aids:

  • Preamble - to see Parliament's intention in enacting a statute. The Theft Act 1968's preamble  states it is an Act to modernise the law of theft.
  • Interpretation section - clarifies meaning of words - s4 (1) in the Theft Act 1968 states that 'property' includes 'money and all other property real or personal, including things in action and other intangible property'.
