Polymerase Chain Reaction.

What is it?

It's artificial DNA replication.

Why is it used?

To increase the amount of DNA to generate enough material for genetic profiling.

How is it done?

The sample to be duplicated is mixed with free nucleotides, and DNA polymerase.

It is heated to 95 degrees. This breaks the completmentary strands into single strands of DNA.
