3.4.1 Kinetics

Simple rate equations

·         0 order

o   Changing the initial concentration of a reactant has no effect on the initial rate of reaction

·         1st order

o   When the initial concentration of reactant is changed by X, the initial rate of reaction is changed by X too

·         2nd order

o   When the initial concentration of reactant is increased by X, the initial rate of reaction is increased by X2

·         Overall order= the sum of the individual orders of the reactants

Determining the rate equation

Rate=k [A]m [B]n

·         Where m and n represent the orders of the reaction with respect to A and B

·         Rate=k[A][C]

o   A + B +2C…
