A Level Psychology - Experimental Design:

Types of Experiments Design:

  1. Repeated Measures
  2. Matched Pairs
  3. Independent Measures

Repeated Measures:

  • Each participant takes part in every condition being tested
  • Each condition represents one level of the IV

Positives of Repeated Measures Design:

  • Good control of participant variables as same people used
  • Fewer participants needed than independent measures and matched pairs

Negatives of Repeated Measures Design:

  • Order effects are produced, e.g. participants  do better on the 2nd set of testing
  • Condition A may be easier than condition B
  • Participants may guess the purpose of the experiments
