Atoms
Atoms are the smallest unit that a matter can be. Atoms are made up of 3 miniature particles called subatomic particles. The 3 that make up an atom are Protons, Electrons and Neutrons.
Protons have a charge of +1 also known as a positive charge
Electrons have a charge of -1 also known as a negative charge
Neutrons have a charge of 0 or no charge
Elements
A chemical element is a substance that has atoms with the same number of protons. This is what's known as the elements atomic number. Elements cannot be broken down using a chemical reaction. Elements are organised into the periodic table of elements.
Elements can be turned into compounds and mixtures.
A compound is made up of atoms from more than 2 different elements. These elements are chemically bound meaning they cannot be broken apart, the compound has to be destroyed. An example is H20 which is made up of 2 Hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom. These…
