what is Ionic bonding
Atoms turn into ions (become charged by losing or gaining electrons) and then the positive ions attract the negative ions.
1 of 9
what is Covalent bonding
Two atoms share a pair of electrons.
2 of 9
All atoms have a central nucleus. Why is the nucleus is positively charged
because it is made up of protons which are positively charged and neutrons which are neutral
3 of 9
what is the nucleus surrounded by?
negatively charged electrons arranged in shells.
4 of 9
why does atoms have no charge
because it has the same number of protons and electrons, so they cancel out each other’s charge.
5 of 9
what is mass number
The mass number is the total number of protons and neutrons in the atom.
6 of 9
what is atomic number
The atomic number is the number of protons and number of electrons in the atom.
7 of 9
what do all atoms of a particular element have
same number of protons.
8 of 9
why are some atoms of a particular element called isotopes
some elements have varieties that have different numbers of neutrons
