    • 20 elephants, 500/600 lions and numerous other animals killed during each show
  • Tower of London
    • 1200s to 1835 
      • closed down by the RSPCA
    • Monarchs exchanged gifts
    • admission paid in money or food for the animals
    • London Zoo created when the Tower of London menagerie shut down
