  • East= Aristoc &also moral decay and social cynicism of NY  West= newly rich, trad social vals
  • Valley of Ashes = moral and social decay of America
  • New York = amoral quest for money and pleausre (Myrtle!)

  • G+D reunion in the rain = awkward and meancholy, love rewakens when sun comes up
  • G+T climatic confrontation, hottet day of the year !
  • Wilson kills G on first day of Autumn; chill in the air - a symbolic attempt to stop time and restore his relationship with Daisy to the way it was five years before, in 1917.
