Solutions

Solvent- Solvent is a liquid that dissolves other substances                                     Solute - Solute is a substance that dissolves in a liquid

Solute + Solvent = Solution                                                                                       Solutions is:
1. Always clear; we can see through it
2. Coloured or Collourless
3. Homogenous (every part of the solution has the same properties such as colour and density)
4. Solute particles do not settle to the bottom
5. Solute particles in a solution can pass through filter paper

Suspension

Suspension is:
1. usually cloudy
2. Heterogeneous (appearance is not the same in every part)
3. Solid particles settle to the bottom
4. Solid particles in a suspension cannot pass through filter paper

Factors affecting Solubility and rate of Dissolvin

When no more solute is able to dissolve in a solution, it is said that the solution is saturated.

Solubility is the amount of solute that can dissolve in a given amount of solvent.

Factors affecting solubility:
1. Type of Solute
2. Type of solvent
3. Temperature of Solvent

Factors affecting rate of dissolving:
1. Temperature
2. Surface Area
3. Stirring
