because society is based on value consensus social policies benefit everyone and they are beneficial to helping society run efficiently

they look at one issue at a time called piecemeal engineering

Because society isbased on capitalism social policies benefit ruling class interests

marxists want to influence social policy to improve the status of the working class but this does not occur

The state should have minimal involvement in society 

they say that social policies should bring back responsibility and reinforce the nuclear family rather than providing perverse incentive

Feminist view

Society is based on gender inequality and patriarchy

social policy reinforces patriarchal ideologies and should instead work to reduce this 

liberal feminists have an influence over policy but other feminist groups do not

Realist theory

They look for practical solutions to everyday problems 

there are likely to influence social policies

Social democratic view

Because society is based on conflict this approach tries to overcome it 

it can influence social policy
