The schlieffen plan

How was the Schlieffen plan intented to work?

the schlieffen plan was a plan made by Alfred von Schlieffen prepared for if germany ever went to war. They assumed they would be attacked from both fronts, Russia and France. The assumption was that France was weak and could be beaten quickly but would be ready immediately.

They thought that Russia would take 6 weeks to fully mobilize its army meaning germany had these 6 weeks to defeat France then could focus on Russia.

They also thought that Belgium would let their troops pass through without a fuss.

the plan was to attack from the top where the french would not be expecting it but it meant passing through belgium.
