Dawes Plan

Causes

  • Germany needed help paying reparations as they were so high and unfeasible.
  • And German Economy was still recovering from Hyperinflation and the Ruhr crisis
  • Stresemann therefore met with the allies to get a loan of 800 million marks to make the economy sustainable
  • Also had payments reduced to a more affordable level

Effects

  • French left the ruhr
  • Germany resumed reparations payments
  • German economy recovered
  • Coal output rose from 275 million tons in 1924 to 350 million tons in 1929.
  • Unemployment fell to its lowest since 1918 in 1928

Overall summary

The Dawes Plan was necessary to help Germany grow and pay of their debts, and it meant reparations were paid off, and industry grew in Germany
