Jesus is Baptised

When all the people were being baptised Jesus was baptised too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven'You are my Son,whom I love; with you I am well pleased.'

Jesus in the desert

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days and at the end of them he was hungry. The devil said to him 'If you are the son of god tell this stone to become bread' Jesus answered,'It is written,"Man does not live on bread alone"' The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him' I will give you all their authority and splendour for it has been given to me and I can give it to anyone I want to' Jesus answered'It is written'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only' The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple'If you are the Son of God', he said, 'Throw yourself down from here. For it is wriiten"He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully, they will lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone."' Jesus answered'It says "Do not put the Lord your God to the test."' When the devil had finished all this tempting he left him untill an opportune time.

The paralysed man

One day as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law, who had come from every vllage in Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem, were sitting there, And the power of the lord was present for him to heal the sick. Some men came in carrying a paralytic man on mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right infront of Jesus. When Jesus saw their faith he said,'Friend your sins are forgiven.' The Pharisees and teachers of the law began tinking to themseles, 'Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?' Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked,'Why are you thinking these thins in your hearts? Which is easier to say ,"Get up and walk? But that you may know that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins....' He said to the paralysed man, 'I tell you,get up, take your mat and go home.' Immediately he stood up infront of them, took what he had been lying on ad went home praising God. Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, 'We have seen remarkable things today.'

Who am I?

Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, 'Who do the crowds say I am?' They replied 'Some say John the Baptist;others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets from long ago has come back to life.' 'But what about you?' he asked. 'Who do you say I am?' Peter aswered, 'The Christ of God.' Jesus strictly warned them not to tell anyone. And he said 'The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.'Then he said to them all: 'If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.'

The transfiguration

About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter,John and James with him and went up onto a moutain to pray. As he was praying, the apperance of his face chaged, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightening. Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendour, talking with Jesus. They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. Peter and his companions were very sleepy but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two other men standing with him. As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, 'Master it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters-one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.'(He did not know what he was saying.) While he was speaking a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. A voice came from the cloud saying, 'This is my Son, whom I have chosen, listen to him.' When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. The disciples kept this to themselves, and told no one at that time what they had seen.

Martha and Mary

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked,'Lors don't you care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to help me!' 'Martha,Martha,'the Lord answered,'you are worried ad upset about many things, but only one is needed. Mary has chosen what is better and it will not be taken away from her.'
