Trade union act of 1871

This allowed trade unions to purchase land and hold money which allwed them to function. It also gave them the right to strike.

The criminal law amendment act of 1871

This act was passed immediatley after the Trade union act. It made any form of picketing(striking outside a workplace) illegal. Now while trade unions were legal any action they took became illegal.

Conspiracy and protection of property act 1875

This act replaced the unpopular Criminal law amnedment, it strengthened and encouraged the growth of trade unions. It made it so Trade Unions could do things like protest collectively without being prosecuted.

Civil service Reforms 1870

This allowed anyone to become a civil servant on the basis that they completed in a competitive exam.

Married womens property act 1870

This allowed married women to be the legal owners of the money they earned and to inherit property.

Forsters education act 1870

This act made provisions for elementary schools set up around the country run by the state, they were often known as board schools. the act was significant as it showed the government was moving away from a laissez faire approach to social legislation.

Cardwells army reforms 1871-3

This made it so troops were withdrawn from self governing colonies as scattered troops were expensive and inefficient. At the time long enlistment times were unpopular, so times were put in to decide how long people wanted to stay in the reserves.

Public health act 1872

There is not much info on this one but it tried to improve health of the people one way or another, in the exam just remeber the public helath act of 1875 as there is more info on it.
