Recycling Metals

Many metals can be recycled by melting them down and making them into something new.

Advantages:

  • Natural reserves of metal ores last longer.
  • Less mining, meaning less land destruction, noise produced and dust pollution.
  • Less pollution produced.
  • Less energy used to recycle, more used to extract.
  • Less metal wasted and left in landfill sites.

Disadvantages:

  • Costly - Transporting and sorting what's recyclable costs losts of money.
  • Sometimes recycling requires more energy than extraction.
  • Transporting metals causes pollution.
