For many poorer countries rapids population growth is slowing down their development. The ever-growing population puts too much pressure on their resources.

- Countries find it difficult just feeding everyone as a result many people go hungry and famines occur

- The authorities cant afford to provide enough schools and teachers and many people remain uneducated and lack the skills that would help them out of poverty

- Countries cant provide basic health care as there are not enough doctors and nurses. Millions of people die from diseases that could be cured or prevented
