Pre-conceptual Care

What does pre-conceptual care include?

• Being in a steady relationship

• Stopping smoking completely

• Ideally, cutting out alcohol, or at least reducing alcohol intake

• Avoiding unnecessary medications and all recreational drugs

• Checking with the GP that any prescribed medications are safe to take

• Taking folic acid before pregnancy and up till the 12^th week of pregnancy

• Avoiding vaccinations

• Avoiding X-rays and radiation treatments
