Chopin Prelude no.15- Melody

- Melody in first bars oulines a raindrop as it is a falling triad

- The melody continues  this way and includes ornaments such as a septuplet

- In section A higher parts of the piano are used whereas in section B, lower parts are used to represent the storm

- The melody is labelled as held back and slow crubato

- The dynamics begin piano to represent peace before the storm

- Chopin uses crescendos and diminiuendos to build the dynamics

- In section B, it builds to forte.

- In the repeat of section A, it is piano again to represent the calmness after the storm

Chopin Prelude no.15- Texture

- The overall texture is melody dominated homophony

-There are single bars of monophonic texture but are infrequent

- Homophonic texture is created by the two hands playing the piano- one plays the melody and the other plays the harmony

- The texture is chordal in section B due to the octaves doubling of the raindrop pedal note

- The structure is ABA, Coda (ternary form)

- The repeated A section and coda are very short

Chopin Prelude no.15- Tonality and Harmony

- Section A is in a major key to represent light rain 

- Section B is in a minor key to represent the storm

- The tonality is Db major in section A and modulates to C# minor in section B

- Harmony is created by the repeated Ab dominant pedal in the left hand which is thought to represent the raindrop.

-This note becomes G# in the key change
