-to help people live as independantly as possible in their own homes
-to establish a 'mixed economy of care'

-promotes services in which people can live in their own homes

-the equal opportunities approach is adopted

Care Standards Act 2000

aims;
-to standardise the level of care given to the service users in a residential home

advantages;
-it focuses on the individual needs
-daily life and activities are available for the service user to choose from
-complaints procedure is in place

Carers Recognition and Services Act - 1995

aims;
-to protect and recognise the importance of informal carers in the community

advantages;
-helps the person cared for to live at home
-recognises that the carer has needs and not the same for each person

disadvantages;
-it doesn't demand service given

Mental Health Act 2007

aims;
-to protect and care for people with mental health needs

advantages;
-protects people with mental health needs
-ensures that care is given so people aren't alone
-service users are provided with support
-protects rights of service users
-can detain people without their will

disadvantages;
-can't change peoples attitudes
-service users may not be aware of their rights
-service users can be discharged too early
-service users who have been sectioned may be discriminated
