Boycotts - If someone opposed the KKK they will stop shopping/ using their business and may destroy it
Lynching - Between 1880 & 1930, nearly 2500 black Americans were lynched in the Southern states
The KKK were not in danger of being prosecuted as many police officers were in the KKK and almost all jury members were white. If they were not in the KKK they were reluctant to oppose them.

Popularity decrease
The KKK popularity began to decrease for many reasons:
Black migration to the North
Government crackdown on illegal activity in the KKK, however being in the klan was not illegal
D.C Stephenson ( grand dragon in Indiana) was found guilty of ****** and mutilating a woman. Membership fell as the trial was highly publicised.
