Herbicide - weedkillers
Pesticide - kills insect pests

The overuse of herbicides and pesticide is reducing biodiversity including the number of birds through destroying their food sources.
It is important that herbicides and pesticides are used carefully and in a controlled manner to ensure that biodiversity is kept in balance.

DDT is a persistent pesticide that is banned in many countries as it cannot be broken down or excreted and it accumulates in the organisms at the top of the food chain, especially the birds of prey, who's numbers are in great decline.
