Sex Discrimination Act 1986

  • This Act applies to men and women
  • Makes it illegal to discriminate according to gender in areas of recruitment, interview selection , promotion and training in the work place
  • It is unlawful to discriminate because a person is married

Equality Opportunites

The Sex Discrimination Act set up the Equality Opportunites Commission to promote equal opportunites for both men and women

Direct

A job advert that states only a male should apply for the job on offer would be an example of direct discrimination.

Indirect

Insufficent male to female toilets when most of the staff are female is an example off indirect discrimination

Victimisation

This means that you should not be picked appon on the grounds of your gender for example female staff being taunted.
