France felt surrounded by Charles as Charles rules Spain and Holy Roman Empire (HRE). France had largest population in Europe (at the time). Is a Catholic country and is ruled by Francis I, who wanted to be Holy Roman Emperor and is a sworn enemy to Charles Habsburg.

Charles-Spain & HRE

Holy Roman Empire was a collection of 400 semi-independent states, ruled by Princes/Dukes. After 1519, the leader or Holy Roman Emperor became Charles V who had been the ruler of Spain as well-was appointed HRE by Pope.-Charles V is nephew of Catherine of Aragon (Henry's Wife)
