DEFINITION OF DIFFUSION

Diffusion is how substances move in and out of cells. Diffusion is the NET movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. This occurs due to the random movement of particles.

TO INCREASE THE RATE OF DIFFUSION

• increase the temperature
• increase the concentration of the substance/number of particles.
• reduce the distance the particles need to move
• increase thhe surface area of the membrane.
