Chromosomes are made up of long strands of DNA.
They are found in pairs (one from your mother and one from your father), in the nucleus of cells.
A section of a chromosome is called a gene. Each gene codes for a particular characteristic such as your height.
Genes are passsed on in sex cells calles gametes from parents to their offspring.This is why orgainisms have similar characteristics to their parents.
